The duration of the rental contract is determined by the product you choose; the rental period for iPhones and Apple Watches ranges from 12 to 24 months, while the rental duration for iPads and Macs ranges from 24 to 36 months.
At the end of the rental period, you will receive a notification from Apple, and you will have three options: return your current device and upgrade to a new one, exit the program and return your device, or purchase the device outright with a single payment.

Apple recommends separately subscribing to this service since returned rented devices that are damaged may incur fees.
If devices with AppleCare are returned damaged, service charges may also apply, but the company does not specify price differences for this scenario.
Although users do not gain ownership of devices as easily with the new program, monthly prices are lower than before. The lowest monthly prices in the iPhone Upgrade Program were generally around $30, while they now start at just $17.99 for an iPhone. Watches and iPads are even cheaper, starting at $11.99.
With Apple’s new products likely being revealed in September, the Apple Upgrade program could be an attractive option for those looking to upgrade their devices. However, users should carefully consider whether renting instead of owning is their preferred method and whether frequent incremental updates across generations of Apple products warrant always having access to the latest version.
